Verizon FiOS is Verizon’s fiber-optic network that provides homes with TV, Internet and phone service. Internet and TV services can be purchased independently, or bundled Verizon FiOS deals can combine all three services. One of the benefits to subscribing to FiOS is the Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote Android App.
As part of a series of apps that allow you to control your FiOS-powered TV (other apps include the Verizon Media Manager and the Verizon My FiOS), the Mobile Remote allows you to control your TV, right from your phone: change the channel, control volume, and even control your DVR.
When you first install the app, you’re prompted to enter your Verizon username and password. After logging in, the homepage is shown, giving you options to view TV Listings, manage your DVR, view and order On Demand movies, or use the app as a remote control.
Choosing TV Listings, you’re be shown a channel guide, just like on your TV. Easily scroll up and down through the channels, or horizontally through time. You can also filter channels (HD only, for example) or jump to a certain channel or date & time. Select a program, and you can view information about the show and choose to record it if you wish.
When you go to the DVR screen, you can see what’s been recorded, scheduled to record, and information on how much disk space is left on your DVR. If you have more than one DVR in your account, you can easily flip between them.
Selecting a program will show you detailed information about the show, and give you the ability to remotely delete the recording.
The Remote takes a little more set-up work, and you must be on your Verizon FiOS WiFi network when using it. Once configured, the remote works just like your TV remote, giving you the ability to change the channel, adjust the volume, access the Program Guide, Widgets and DVR controls.
If you’re a Verizon FiOS subscriber, the Mobile Remote Android App is available to you at no additional fee, so install it today and enjoy more control over your FiOS TVs.
